Contribution of both employee and employer

At present, there is a rule to contribute 0.75% of the salary on behalf of the employee and 3.25% of the employee’s salary on behalf of the employer. The first benefit of free treatment is given to the employees covered under the ESI scheme. Through this scheme, apart from the insured person, his dependent family members are also given the facility of free treatment. There is no maximum limit on expenditure on the treatment of the insured person and his family members.Medical care is provided to retired employees and permanently disabled insured persons and their spouses at an annual premium of Rs 120. This payment is at the rate of 91 percent of the wages.
Maternity leave is also available through ESI. In this, women are paid 26 percent of the average salary for up to 100 weeks in delivery and up to six weeks in case of abortion.
If an insured person dies during employment, then the basic expenses or up to a maximum of Rs 10,3 are given by ESIC for his funeral. Apart from this, the dependents are given a monthly pension in a fixed proportion. The pension is divided into <> parts – the first is the wife of the insured, the second is the pension of the children and the third is the pension of his parents.
The ESI insured is given a monthly pension for the entire life till he recovers in case of temporary disability and in case of permanent disability. At the same time, dependents also get pension, unemployment allowance, free treatment after retirement.
